Title: Tools for understanding biomimicking membranes
Susanne Wiedmer has a PhD in analytical chemistry and is full professor of analytical chemistry at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Helsinki. She has supervised over 50 BSc thesis, 100 MSc thesis, and has been the main or co-supervisor of 15 PhD students. Currently she is supervising 5 PhD students. Her group has expertise in sample preparation methodologies, gas and liquid chromatography, capillary electromigration (CE) techniques, mass spectrometry, field flow fractionation (AF4), and in biosensing methods. The main research focus is on liposomes and liposome-analyte interactions using various modes of CE, on interactions between biomembrane-mimicking surfaces and analytes (by CE, nanoplasmonic sensing, and quartz crystal microbalance), as well as on characterizing lipid vesicles and particles (by CE and AF4). Susanne Wiedmer has published over 170 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, and she has been involved in 10 book projects either as an editor or as an author.
